Hello! My name is Haley.

Nicknames: Bee and Cheerios

Some background: I grew up in small-town Alabama, where I spent my early days being rowdy and climbing trees. As the youngest sibling, I kept myself busy with stories. The F. Scott Fitzgerald quote, “That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you’re not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong,” is a favorite of mine, and it held true for years. In school, I played second bass on drumline, and I was a Girl Scout all the way up to my senior year. My college studies centered around English literature, philosophy, and communications. I always expected that I would become a high school English teacher or possibly open a local coffee shop; I even considered teaching English as a missionary for a few months. None of those things happened, although I do have a dog called Emerson.

For five years, I worked at a small digital agency. My original position was Account Executive, but my role grew to include account management, media planning and buying, brand strategy, copywriting, digital strategy, creative direction, and new business. I enjoyed the unpredictability, as well as the constant change in my day-to-day. I was A+ Google certified and loved reporting the nitty gritty of analytics and PPC management one minute, and then immediately switching to content writing and building out a Scope of Work. I’m thankful for the opportunities that came from that small agency environment; I was able to gain wide knowledge in vastly different areas and take in a full view of where my skills and passions aligned. For me, that’s brand strategy, this special sauce of creative thinking, research, and brand development. I’m a deep thinker by nature, and I see brand strategy as a way to indulge my love of stories, questions, and people.

This is where the story gets interesting. While researching a summer road trip to Savannah, I stumbled upon Focus Lab and wholeheartedly fell hook, line, and sinker. I loved the company voice, the incredible design, and the team’s hungry and humble approach to work. They didn’t have any current job openings, but I sent an email with the hopes that I could stay in touch and followed along via social media. Nearly a year to the exact day of that venture, I started my first week on the job as Brand Strategist.

When I first applied with Focus, I was sure this company was one that would encourage passions and create positive growth. But what’s incredible is every phone and video interview thereafter instilled that feeling even more (kind of like the Grinch when his heart keeps increasing in size by the generosity of others). I’m happy to report that it’s all true: everyone here at Focus believes the best in you, and I’m grateful they saw it in me.
